Mr. Blake Nichols: “I’ve had the pleasure of building friendships with many graduated students”

Hello there! My name is Blake Nichols and I am from Utah in the USA, which is a big beautiful desert. I’ve been living away from Utah, though, for nearly 15 years, in various towns and cities in the USA, Kenya, and Vietnam.  I’ve been in Hanoi for six years, though, and have taught at ULIS/FLE for nearly four years.  I teach marketing, operations management, and various other career development courses in the SNHU program.

After growing up in Utah, I moved to Portland, Oregon, USA, where I studied a master’s in business and started working with nonprofit organizations and entrepreneurs.  I then moved to a small town in Kenya, where I did volunteer work for the Peace Corps.  My work focused on helping entrepreneurs start companies.  I also taught businesses courses at a university in my town.  After two and a half years in Kenya, I found a job with D&G Vietnam in Hanoi.  I moved to Vietnam to work for that company, but moved to VinGroup within about one year of working in Vietnam.  After working for VinGroup, I joined ULIS. I also started working more with entrepreneurs and startups in Hanoi, and volunteering with Keep Hanoi Clean.  Now, most of my time is spent on producing research in the realm of social marketing.

I’ve had the pleasure of building friendships with many graduates.  I’m always interested to see my students grow and develop careers.  It’s been fun to be a part of their lives, and to support them after graduation.

I like living in Vietnam.  I’ve had a good life here, learning the language, eating the food, and dating my girlfriend.  It’s a nice country.  I’ve had a good time here.

I plan to return to graduate school to study and get a PhD.  I plan to focus my research on social marketing topics, especially prosocial consumer behavior and using demarketing to improve the safety of people’s lives and improving our communities.

It’s been fun to share about my story!
