Closing conference of the school year 2017-2018 and the announcement ceremony of the appointment of Vice President Lam Quang Dong

On August 8th, 2018, the University of Language and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS – VNU) held the closing ceremony of the school year 2017-2018 in Ha Long, Quang Ninh province. The ceremony was attended and led by the VNU’s President, Mr. Nguyen Kim Son.

The announcement ceremony of the appointment decision for the Vice President of ULIS – VNU also took place at this conference. VNU’s President Nguyen Kim Son announced the Decision No. 1868/QĐ-ĐHQGHN dated June 6th, 2018 on appointing Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lam Quang Dong to be the Vice President of ULIS.

At the conference, Vice President Nguyen Xuan Long presented the report to sum up the school year 2017-2018. During this school year, ULIS has obtained outstanding achievements. In particular, it accomplished the student recruitment for the Foreign Language Specialized School (FLSS) and itself, which ensured both quality and quantity; checked elements to ensure the qualities of undergraduate and graduate training programs; managed to develop and enroll 03 fast-track training programs in accordance with the Circular No. 23/2014/ TT-BGDĐT for Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages; undertook in a timely manner the state-level techno-scientific research under the Northwest Program; successfully held the One Asia Convention Hanoi 2018; issued and implemented seriously the Regulation on scientific research and knowledge transfer of ULIS’s teachers and Plan on inner strength investment and development and encouraging techno-scientific activities; completed and ensured the quality of 46 tasks in the National Language Project; completed and deployed the Project on renovating internship skills and developing supplementary skills in the period of 2018-2020 for ULIS’s students.

Addressing at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Kim Son recognized and praised the results that ULIS has achieved in this school year, especially with 8 outstanding achievements: the university has kept developing in a sustainable and promising; high entry-qualified requirements has proved ULIS prestige; 3 new fast-track programs have been developed and implemented with a great promise for new potentials; techno-scientific activities have been developed and invested; human resources have kept developing and increasing, the number of Doctors has been at a high rate in comparison to other foreign languages teaching universities; the financial health has been stabilized and tended to show positive signs; facilities and prestige of FLSS have been uplifted and new Vice President has been appointed.

In response to the direction of Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Kim Son, President Do Tuan Minh affirmed that the university would try its best to meet the expectations of VNU’s President. Besides, President Do Tuan Minh also emphasized the tasks for the 2018 – 2019 school year: with regard to training, the university needs to continue strengthening the quality assurance elements to improve its competitiveness, attractive level towards learners at all levels and training programs; expand the scale of fast-track programs in accordance with the Circular No. 23 issued by the Ministry of Education and Training. Regarding science and technology, the university will strictly implement the Regulation No. 1868/QĐ-ĐHNN dated on September 15th, 2017 on scientific research and knowledge transfer of ULIS’s teachers, continue to raise the quality and reputation of the Foreign Studies Journal, complete the state-level techno-scientific research under the Northwest Program and organize successfully international scientific seminars and conferences. For student affairs, ULIS needs to implement successfully the Project on renovating internship skills and developing supplementary skills in the period of 2018-2020 for its students.

After a strict and professional agenda, the closing conference of the 2017-2018 school year finished in a unified, collective and determined atmosphere.
