On April 10th, 2018, the University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS – VNU) organized a meeting with Mr. Étienne Rolland-Piègue – the Counselor of Cooperation and Cultural Activities of the Embassy of France in Vietnam, escorted by Mr. Pierre-Yves Turrellier – the Attaché of Educational Cooperation of the Embassy of France in Vietnam and Mr. Etienne Berteas – the specialist of Language and Education Cooperation under the Cooperation and Cultural Activities Department – French Institute in Vietnam.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Do Tuan Minh – ULIS’s president, Dr. Pham Van Kim – Director of Administration Office, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Hong Van and Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hoa – Dean and Vice Dean of the Faculty of French Language and Culture (FFLC).

At the meeting, Mr. Etienne Rolland-Piègue, on behalf of the Embassy of France in Vietnam, proposed cooperating with the university to open a “Francophonie space” at ULIS. This will include activities of introducing and popularizing the French language and culture such as film movie watching, seminar, discussion and French speaking contest. The Counselor also expressed his desire to promote the cooperation between universities in France and ULIS as well as with other universities in Vietnam.

President Minh asserted that ULIS agreed to support the creation of a French-speaking environment for students and staff within and without the university. He hoped that the two sides would soon reach an agreement and sign a joint cooperation document related to this plan.

After the discussion, the delegation of the Embassy of France in Vietnam visited the Compound of FFLC.
