Seminar on compilation of the first Arabic-Vietnamese Dictionary
On February 21st, 2020, ULIS – VNU held a seminar to discuss the compilation of an Arabic-Vietnamese dictionary. This is the first Arabic-Vietnamese dictionary developed by the Department of Arabic Language and Culture.
The seminar was attended by Vice President Lam Quang Dong, management board and lecturers of the Department of Arabic Language and Culture, and experts.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President Lam Quang Dong highly appreciated the effort of the Department of Arabic Language and Culture in compiling the Arabic-Vietnamese dictionary. “The dictionary will mark a new milestone in Arabic training in Vietnam, and will also contribute to the development of Arabic teaching and research at ULIS in particular and Vietnam in general” He added.
The dictionary consists of 11 thousand words, arranged in the Arabic alphabet. The vocabulary is selected from the most common words, ensuring the ratio between word classes. The compilation team consists of 10 lecturers. The project started on September 15th, 2017 and is expected to be assessed at the university level on October 30th, 2020.
