ULIS students learn about Asian language and culture from perspective of American Professor

On October 24th, 2019, students of ULIS – VNU had a meeting with Professor Norbert Francis from Northern Arizona University (USA), who delivered the lecture “Features of Asian language and culture”. It is in the 8th topic within the curriculum of the subject ‘Learn about Asian community’.

The lesson was attended by Dr. Chu Thi Bich – Head of the Division of Vietnamese Language & Culture, Dr. Tran Huu Tri – Lecturer in charge of the subject and Dr. Phan Thi Huyen Trang – Lecturer of the Division.

The subject is taught with 10 topics taught directly by foreign and home researchers, experts and diplomats. The subject is taught by lecturers of the Division of Vietnamese Language & Culture.

During the lession, Professor Norbert Francis introduced to ULIS students the concepts of language and culture. He asserted that society today did not have a homogeneous culture or nation, but the result of a cross-cultural and linguistic interference.

The lesson with Professor Norbert Francis brought a lot of interesting knowledge about the cultures and languages of Asian countries. In the near future, students taking part in “Understanding Asian Community” will also listen to a lecture delivered by Thai Ambassador to Vietnam.
