Lang Son Program: Working with leaders of the provincial Department of Education and Training and high schools

On October 23rd, 2018, a delegation of ULIS – VNU led by President Do Tuan Minh visited Lang Son Department of Education and Training and several high schools in Lang Son province.

The President was joined by chairman of the Council of Cooperation and Development’s consultancy Nguyen Lan Trung, members of the management Committee, and the University’s other representatives.

The trip is part of the implementation of the Lang Son program. it aims to implement a clause of the agreement whereby high schools’ English teachers would be trained innovative activities suitable to the local features of Langson.

First, the delegation paid a visit to Huu Lung High School. After the greeting, the delegation instantly examined English teaching situation there. The delegation also received some constructive feedback and valuable proposals from the School’s Executive Board and teachers on the implementaion of the Lang Son Program.

The second place that the delegation visited was Chu Van An Specialized High School, the leading school in Lang Son’s high school education and training system. At Chu Van An high school, the delegation had a meeting with its leaders and foreign language teachers ​​to acknowledge the foreign language training here. ULIS ​​is the choice of many students in Chu Van An high school after their graduation in recent years. Therefore, President Do Tuan Minh hoped that the school would facilitate ULIS to spread recruitment information to students.

On this occasion, Mr. Nguyen Phu Chien, Vice Principal of  Foreign Language Specialized School (FLSS) also shared about the history, training activities and achievements of FLSS to seek cooperation opportunities between the two specialized schools in the future.

In the meeting with Lang Son Department Education and Training (Lang Son DOET) with the participation of leaders from 11 high schools (in Huu Lung District, Loc Binh District and Lang Son City), Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, Director of Lang Son DOET introduced and emphasized the meaning of “Lang Son Program”. Lang Son DOET spoke highly of the activeness and effectiveness of ULIS’ s activities.

Addressing at the meeting, President Do Tuan Minh informed that “Lang Son Program” was an activity in ULIS community service with a desire to gradually improve the quality of English teaching and learning nationwide. He also affirmed that this program was highly appreciated by the University.

In addition, the Board of Management and teachers at ULIS would accompany the program to realize the desire of improving English proficiency in Lang Son. The University would organize activities to enhance the quality of teaching and learning foreign languages ​​for more than 80 teachers and thousands of students in 12 high schools and 3 districts/cities in Lang Son. Teachers would be trained in accordance with a new model, specific objectives, and clear outcomes.

During the working session, Assoc. Prof. Dr.  Nguyen Lan Trung presented about activities within the program framework that ULIS has conducted recently, especially the establishment of nine specialist groups. The delegation also worked directly with the leaders of 11 high schools to discuss the implementation of next activities.

The working sessions in Lang Son province with the local high schools on October 23th, 2018 ended successfully, paving the way for next surveys, field trips and training activities of the University.
