The 12th International Conference of Korean Studies
From October 17th to 18th, 2024, ULIS-VNU in collaboration with Academy of Korean Studies (AKS) hosted the 12th International Conference of Korean Studies.
In his opening speech, Head of Academy of Korean Studies Kim Nak Nyeon shared that the International Conference of Korean Studies has been held in various countries, showcasing a diverse array of articles, which illustrated the significant development of Korean studies. With the theme “Crossing Boundaries: Interdisciplinary Communication in Korean studies”, this conference offered a great opportunity for scientists to explore and generate new ideas in Korean studies.
At the opening of the ceremony, Korean Ambassador Choi Young Sam judged that the demand for learning Korean and researching Korean studies in Vietnam has been increasingly popular with noticeable figures in recent years. The Ambassador hoped that the development of Korean studies and Korean teaching education would be promoted via this international conference, widening the exchange among Korean study researchers worldwide.
During the ceremony, Head of ULIS Nguyen Xuan Long affirmed that ULIS-VNU has initially constructed Korean training programs with various levels. Ph.D. Nguyen Xuan Long expected to cooperate with the Korean Ministry of Education and Training and Academy of Korean Studies to sustainably establish regular Korean training programs, and projects of Korean studies within Vietnam’s educational system.
After that, the introductory speech section was presented by Head of European Korean Study Association Vladimir Tikhonov and the speaker from Seoul National University Prof. Chae Suhong. With the topic “Korean studies from an area study perspective: Focusing on the case of Vietnam”, this introductory section shared valuable insights based on practical research.
The 12th International Conference of Korean studies took place in 2 days in both English and Korean.The event featured 102 presentations across 30 subcommittees with various fields including linguistics, literature, histories, religions, philosophies, anthropologies, sociologies, politics and arts.
