The Sumitomo Foundation Introduces 2025 Research Grant Program at ULIS
On June 11th, 2025, the University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS – VNU) welcomed Mr. Kenichi Hayama, representative of The Sumitomo Foundation (Japan), for an official working session.

Attending the meeting were Mr. Luu Manh Kien, Deputy Head of the Office for Science, Technology, and Development Cooperation, staff in charge of international cooperation, and lecturers from the Faculty of Japanese Language and Culture.
Continuing the success of previous years, the meeting aimed to enhance mutual understanding, share practical experience in grant application, and promote future collaboration with The Sumitomo Foundation.
The Sumitomo Foundation, established on September 25, 1991, by 20 companies within the Sumitomo Group, is a non-profit organization that supports projects addressing human and social issues. Its mission is to improve quality of life and contribute to the betterment of society through community-supported initiatives.


During the meeting, Mr. Hayama offered an in-depth overview of the Foundation, elaborating on its mission, values, and the application process for the 2025 research grant program. He expressed high hopes that the Foundation’s support would help bring many meaningful ULIS-led projects to fruition.

The session featured insightful exchanges, with many questions from ULIS faculty members addressed in detail.
To mark the occasion, Mr. Hayama presented a commemorative gift to ULIS on behalf of the Sumitomo Foundation. In return, Mr. Luu Manh Kien offered a gift of appreciation, reaffirming ULIS’s gratitude for the Foundation’s continuous efforts to fund impactful research initiatives at ULIS and beyond.
