The Solemn Ceremony of the University’s 70th Anniversary and the Awarding of the First-Class Labour Order
On November 8, 2025, the University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS – VNU, Hanoi), solemnly hosted the Ceremony of the University’s 70th Anniversary (1955–2025) and the Awarding of the First-Class Labour Order.

The event was marked by the distinguished presence of Ms. Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Member of the Party Central Committee and Vice President of the Social Republic of Vietnam, who officially presented the prestigious First-Class Labour Order to ULIS, recognizing the University’s outstanding achievements in education and training.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Comrade Le Quoc Minh – Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Commission for Propaganda and Education and Mass Mobilization, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, and President of the Vietnam Journalists Association; Comrade Hoang Binh Quan – Former Member of the Party Central Committee and former Chairman of the Central Commission for External Relations; Comrade Nguyen Thanh Lam – General Director of Vietnam Television (VTV); Comrade Nguyen Dung Tien – Vice chairman of the Office of the President; Comrade Nguyen Duy Hung – Deputy Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Commission; Comrade Don Tuan Phong – Vice Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee on National Defense, Security, and Foreign Affairs; Comrade Le Quan – Deputy Minister of Education and Training; and representatives from the leadership of various central government agencies, provinces, and cities.

International representatives included H.E. Ito Naoki, Ambassador of Japan in Vietnam; as well as representatives from the leadership of various embassies, international organizations, partner enterprises, universities; and the University’s partner educational and science-technology organizations.

VNU was represented by Vice President Associate Professor Dr. Dao Thanh Truong and Vice President Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hoang Hai; Professor Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan, Chairman of the Quality Assurance Council; Professor Dr. Vu Minh Giang, Chairman of the Science and Academics; as well as leaders of VNU’s Offices, functional departments, Party and mass organizations, and the leadership of all member and affiliated units.

ULIS was represented by the Collective Leadership of the University; former University leaders from various periods, along with all staff, pupils, students, educators, veteran officials, representatives from the Former Teachers’ Association leadership, and the University’s exemplary alumni and trainees.






ULIS’s 70th Anniversary highlights a journey from its initial establishment in 1955 to becoming a high-quality training and research center and a founding member of VNU. Today, the University boasts nearly 800 staff, 11 training faculties, 7 functional offices, 2 affiliated high schools, and 1 Journal of Foreign Studies. The institution offers instruction in 12 foreign languages, featuring 16 undergraduate programs, 4 dual-degree programs, 2 international joint programs, 12 master’s programs, and 8 doctoral programs. Dr. Do Tuan Minh, Chairman of the University Council, delivered a welcoming speech, noting that the University has successfully fulfilled its mission as a pioneering force in foreign language training and in contributing to the National Foreign Language Project. He proudly emphasized the institution’s commitment to building a culture of quality and professionalism, evidenced by high results in quality accreditations.
Looking ahead, Dr. Do Tuan Minh articulated the University’s vision to become a leading global university by 2045. The strategy focuses on innovating training programs to align with international standards, developing an elite faculty, and aggressively applying Artificial Intelligence and language technology. This path is driven by the motto: “Creating opportunities together!” VNU Vice President, Associate Professor Dr. Dao Thanh Truong, underscored the significance of the 70-year milestone and affirmed VNU’s commitment to provide comprehensive support for ULIS’s continued innovation. He announced key strategic directions, including transforming educational methods towards developing self-study and creative thinking, integrating research, and building a modern, internationalized learning environment.






The University received an overwhelming number of congratulatory flower baskets from high-ranking figures, including the Prime Minister, the National Assembly Chairman, and the General Secretary, symbolizing the profound recognition and high appreciation from the Party and State for ULIS’s contributions. President Nguyen Xuan Long expressed his deep gratitude to all partners and preceding generations of leaders and faculty, affirming that ULIS will continue its relentless efforts and dedication to the common development of VNU and the nation.

The commemoration concluded with a meaningful segment dedicated to appreciation and honor. ULIS presented commemorative medals to individuals, partnering units, and distinguished alumni, acknowledging their significant contributions, companionship, and dedication to the University’s development over the past 70 years. Additionally, student representative Vu Thanh Thao delivered an emotional address, expressing the profound responsibility of ULIS students to utilize their expertise as a “connecting bridge,” ensuring that Vietnam is accurately and respectfully heard on the international stage. The event successfully affirmed ULIS’s position as a reputable institution and its readiness to contribute actively to the nation’s development in the new global era.
