Vietnam-Arab Literary Connection Contest Celebrates World Arabic Language Day, Attended by the Ambassador and the President of the Palestinian Writers’ Union
On December 18, 2025, at Sunwah Hall, the University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS-VNU), in collaboration with the Embassy of the State of Palestine, organized the Celebration of World Arabic Language Day (December 18) and the Final Round of the 2025 Contest “Connecting Vietnamese and Arab Literature through Theatre.”

Attending the program were H.E. Mr. Saadi Salama – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Palestine to Vietnam, Mr. Murad Sudanni – President of the Palestinian Writers’ Union, along with representatives from the Embassy of Palestine, and partner organizations and agencies. From the University of Languages and International Studies, the event welcomed Dr. Hoa Ngoc Son – Vice President, leaders of the University’s units, as well as the Management Board, staff, and students of the Department of Arabic Language and Culture.


The program opened with distinctive cultural performances presented by students of the Department of Arabic Language and Culture.

In his opening remarks, Vice President Hoa Ngoc Son extended his sincere appreciation to H.E. Ambassador Saadi Salama and all staff members of the Embassy of Palestine in Vietnam for collaborating with the University to organize this meaningful event.

“Possessing a long-standing history, Arabic is the language of the brilliant Islamic civilization, preserving a vast treasure trove of knowledge in culture, science, literature, and arts. At the same time, it serves as a vital bridge for cooperation and dialogue among nations and cultures worldwide. The theme of this year’s World Arabic Language Day – ‘Innovative Directions for Arabic: Policies and Practices towards a More Inclusive Linguistic Future’ – holds profound significance in the current context of globalization and digital transformation.”
Speaking at the ceremony, H.E. Mr. Saadi Salama – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Palestine to Vietnam, emphasized that Palestine always places special importance on preserving and promoting the Arabic language, viewing this as a vital mission implemented through a comprehensive and long-term action strategy. The Embassy of Palestine in Vietnam expressed a desire to strengthen cooperation with Arabic language training institutions in Vietnam, particularly the University of Languages and International Studies. This event serves as a clear testament to the steadfast cooperative relationship between the two sides, opening up prospects for numerous meaningful activities in the near future.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Murad Sudani – President of the Palestinian Writers’ Union, in his capacity as a writer and cultural activist, expressed how deeply moved he was by the ULIS students’ spirit of learning, exploration, and connection to Arab literature and culture. He emphasized the role of language and literature as enduring bridges, capable of connecting people and transcending geographical boundaries and cultural differences. At the same time, he conveyed his hope that ULIS students would continue to nurture their love for the Arabic language, literature, and universal human values, thereby contributing to spreading understanding and empathy among nations.

Immediately following this, the Final Round of the 2025 contest “Connecting Vietnamese and Arab Literature through Theatre” officially commenced in a vibrant atmosphere. The participating teams presented elaborately prepared theatrical adaptations, inspired by representative literary works of Vietnam and the Arab world. Through diverse forms of expression, the students not only applied the Arabic language in narration and dialogue but also demonstrated their literary appreciation, adaptation skills, and artistic creativity. The performances clearly reflected the students’ academic seriousness, investment in content, and sense of responsibility toward the competition.

The performances at the Final Round deeply impressed the Board of Judges with their serious investment, creative approaches, and the ability to harmoniously combine language, literature, and theatrical arts.
Through each performance, the participating teams not only demonstrated their Arabic language proficiency but also revealed a profound understanding of the humanistic values and cultural depth of the selected works. The Board of Judges highly appreciated the contestants’ serious work ethic, dedication, and stage presence. Many performances transcended the boundaries of a standard competition entry, delivering genuine emotions and fresh perspectives on bridging Vietnamese and Arab literature through the language of the stage.
After a process of impartial and thorough deliberation, the Board of Judges presented awards to the teams with the most outstanding performances, including: The First Prize was awarded to the “Arab Pearl” group; The Second Prize went to the “Qays and Layla” group; The Third Prize was given to the “White Birds” group; Consolation Prizes were awarded to the “Al-Dhahab”, “Solidarity”, and “Zootopia” groups.




Wrapping up the series of activities within the framework of ARABIC DAY 2025, attendees had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a culinary cultural experience – a highlight that helped complete the program’s vibrant picture of cultural exchange. While language and theatre opened doors to intellectual and emotional connections, cuisine served as an approachable and vivid medium, helping attendees perceive Arab cultural identity more clearly. The culinary experience not only brought the program to a close in a warm atmosphere but also left a lasting impression, thereby continuing to spread the spirit of cultural connection among the community of ULIS students.
