On October 16th, 2024, ULIS-VNU held its 40th anniversary of  the Inauguration of the French Department Compound (1984-2024).

Opening the ceremony, President Nguyen Xuan Long extended his heartfelt gratitude to all the guests, former lecturers, and students attending this solemn celebration. Through  the history of the French Department Compound’s formation over the period of 40 years with significant cultural, educational and artistic values, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Long hoped that this construction would still be a symbolic site, representing the open spirit of ULIS – VNU and promote worldwide cultural exchange.

On behalf of the French Embassy in Vietnam, delivering his speech at the ceremony, the French Ambassador Olivier Brochet also extended his deep appreciation to ULIS – VNU in general and Faculty of French language and Culture in particular for French cultural celebration. Throughout the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and French-speaking countries, and the enormous contribution of Faculty of French language and Culture in promoting the development of French in Vietnam, Mr. Olivier Brochet expected that ULIS-VNU in general and Faculty of French language and Culture in particular would continuously enhance the educational quality in order to provide well-trained workforce in fields such as translation, interpretation, teaching, and business. 

Two reports including “Architectural values of the French Department Compound” and “Nostalgia for the building process of the French Department Compound”, respectively presented by architect Emmanuel Cerise and the former lecturer Bui Ngoc Thu, aroused a piece of history of this 40-year-old construction. 

During the ceremony, Head of the Faculty of French language and Culture hoped that the French Department Compound would bond the lecturer-and-student generation in the faculty together, and promote cultural and educational values of ULIS – VNU.

At the celebration, the award ceremony of the contest “French Faculty construction – Back to the Memory Land” took place for individuals with excellent and impressive products (articles, videos, photos) about the French Department Compound. Besides, this celebration introduced and rewarded the Webtoon project, and gave souvenirs to former teachers on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day November 20 as well.
