The 60th anniversary of the Faculty of English (1958 – 2018): Pride in Traditions, Confidence in Future

At the ceremony, all generations of members and students of the Faculty gathered together to take a journey on “the train of memory” over the 60-year history of the Faculty from its inception. Everyone was immersed in a loving atmosphere, and filled with emotions when seeing their teachers and friends who had been companions on that “memory” journey.

On November 18th, 2018, ULIS-VNU solemnly celebrated the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of English (1958 – 2018).

Attending the ceremony were the presence of Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Huu – Head of the Management Board of the National Foreign Languages Project; Ms. Bui Thi Lien Nga – Representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training; and representatives from domestic and foreign agencies and units.

From the ULIS side, there were President Do Tuan Minh, Vice President / Head of the Organizing Committee Ngo Minh Thuy, Vice President Lam Quang Dong, Vice President Nguyen Xuan Long, former leaders of the Faculty of English, representatives of units in the University, former teachers and alumni at the Faculty through the ages, and a large number of staff and students.

Delivering his remark at the event, President Do Tuan Minh shared his happiness and pride in the tradition of the leading foreign language training institute.

After that, the Faculty of English Language Teacher Education, Faculty of English and Faculty of Linguistics and Cultures of English-speaking countries were honored to receive the emulation flag from the Ministry of Education and Training for outstanding achievements. “Innovation and Creativity in teaching and learning” in the 2017-2018 school year.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Vu Hai Ha – Head of the Faculty of English Language Teacher Education shared about the day of this great reunion: “Overcoming geographical barriers, limited facilities, the great gathering today really marks the significance, the success of this meeting”

After his speech, Dr. Vu Hai presented flowers and commemorative medals to pay gratitude towards teachers, who were the former leaders of the Faculty of English through the course of 60 years: Mr. Dang Tran Cuong, Mr. Le Duc Nhuan, Mr. Nguyen Van Loi, Mr. Pham Phuong Luyen, Mr. Nguyen Hoa, Mr. Do Tuan Minh, Ms. Nguyen Thu Le Hang, Mr. Lam Quang Dong.

Also, members and students of all generations of the Faculty boarded a train of memory for a journey over the Faculty’s 60-year history from its inception. The journey took passengers through the station “nostalgia” to the station “memories”. All the people in the hall were immersed in a dazzling atmosphere and filled with emotions when they saw their teachers and friends who had been their companions on that “memory” journey.


Following the event, 4 alumni of the Faculty (Nguyen Nhu Kim – first intake, Le Thu Ha – 14th intake, Le Quoc Minh – 19th intake, Nguyen Tran Tram Anh – 48th intake) with different ages, but sat together to share stories about the Faculty, the memories of a youth with full of enthusiasm, full of aspiration, and even little of naivety – a time to remember, to never forget.
