On September 16th, 2018, as a part of the 2018-2019 school year plan, the University of Languages and International Studies ​​– Vietnam National University held the opening ceremony of the school year 2018-2019 for students of the second training program (double-degree program) of QH.2018. F10 intake and honored the academic and training achievements of classes and students who were outstanding examples of the school year 2017-2018.

The ceremony was attended by the president of ULIS, Dr. Do Tuan Minh, representatives of ULIS’s units, representatives of enterprises, students of the second training program and especially 305 new students of this training program. In the school year 2018-2019, the University recruited students for 4 second training programs in English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean Language. 305 students have been enrolled.

Addressing at the opening ceremony, President Do Tuan Minh extended his congratulations to students registered for the second training programs of QH2018. F10 intake. He said that ULIS ​​had built four double-degree programs in which all students of VNU have the opportunity to study. The double-degree program is an opportunity as well as a challenge that students need to overcome to achieve success in their learning process. President Do Tuan Minh also asserted that ULIS ​​was still actively implementing many activities to support and facilitate students of the second training program. The University is also looking forward to receiving constructive feedback from students.

On behalf of the new students, Ms. Tran Thi My Linh shared “This is not my hasty decision but a rational one after thoroughly understanding about the double-degree program and taking into consideration its pros and cons. If studying at a language center, we just need to spend a certain amount of money and a short period of time to practice model tests to get a language certificate and might have many opportunities to get a good job in the future subsequently. However, these kinds of certificates are valid within only 2 years. If we study at a university instead, we will acquire more than that. Attending a university not only help us improve our foreign language proficiency but also reinforce our knowledge of cultures, soft skills or professional skills. Such knowledge together with the bachelor degree will value us for the rest of our life.

In the double-degree program, we will have to try twice as hard as we have done before and compared with those who just study one training program, we will face stressful moments, pressure, even discouragement and sometimes tempt to give up. However, keep strong and remember today as well as the reason why we started in the first place. Be always confident that all efforts will not be meaningless. We will then discover ourselves in a completely different, more mature and more responsible manner. We will have new friends, new relationships and new experience. In addition, this forthcoming time will surely be a brilliant and proud piece in the picture of each life.”

Also at the opening ceremony, ULIS praised and presented gifts to 4 valedictorians, namely Tran Thi My Hanh (English, ULIS), Tran Duc Tam (Chinese, USSH), Hoang Quoc Trung (Japanese, UET), and Le Hong Khanh (Korean, USSH). Three students, Dao Thi Huyen, Dang Ngoc Anh and Pham Thi Nhai were rewarded for their outstanding academic achievements.

After the opening ceremony, ULIS outlined a study plan for students of the double-degree program of QH2018.F10 intake.
