On April 26, 2017, University of Languages and International Studies-Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS – VNU) held successfully the Developing and Cooperating Conference 2016 – 2017.

The conference was attended by Dr. Do Tuan Minh – ULIS’s President, Assoc. Dr. Ngo Minh Thuy – ULIS’s Vice President, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Long – ULIS’s Vice President, Prof. Nguyen Hoa – President of Science and Training Council, Assoc. Dr. Nguyen Lan Trung – Chairman of Development and Cooperation Consulting Council and leaders, staff of development cooperation departments.

Recently, the development and cooperation activity has always been the prioritized and focal task of ULIS. However, this activity still needs to be further promoted to gain more interest from ULIS’s units and become the main driving force for ULIS’s growth in the upcoming time. Therefore, the 2016-2017 Development and Cooperation Conference was held to review and evaluate the practice of cooperation and development of the 2016-2017 school year, and discuss the orientation for the time to come.

Addressing at the conference, Dr. Do Tuan Minh attached the importance of cooperation and development work and presented a key-note report titled “Discussing the development and cooperation at the ULIS during 2016-2020. By this, the President asserted that the University had paid attention to the development and cooperation task, in terms of all three aspects of direction, institution and implementation. There were still objective constraints, but cooperation and development remained to be identified as the most focal task among focal tasks of 2016-2017 and 2016-2020. Therefore, the school needs to be active and set out many measures such as promoting the communication, etc.

Summing up the cooperation and development in recent years, Dr. Do Minh Hoang, Director of Cooperation and Development Office, said that the cooperation with 70 domestic units and 85 foreign units in various forms helped to increase the opportunities for exchanging students and lecturers; increasing the index of international integration; enhancing the position of ULIS … He also put forward three suggestions in cooperation and development: Promoting initiative in seeking partners and forms of cooperation; Identifying the demand of cooperation, Evaluating experts; Encouraging students to study abroad, recognizing credits.

The report “Some thoughts on cooperation and development strategy at ULIS” by Assoc. Dr. Nguyen Lan Trung identified the central orientations in the school’s development strategy of promoting existing cooperation platforms, building new partnerships, identifying priority areas of cooperation and proposed solutions for human resources, facilities, policies, reward … At the same time, the report also marked out the plan of implementation through 5 specific steps.

The discussion was very exciting. The delegates actively shared the situation of development cooperation of their own units, difficulties and achievements … Thereby, the conference discussed the direction of seeking partners, the orientation of cooperation, the coordination between units, financial mechanisms, communication, monitoring and rewarding … A number of valuable comments have been made with a view to further promoting the school’s cooperation.

To conclude the conference, President Do Tuan Minh thanked the participants for their contributions and made the overall guiding conclusions, emphasizing the coordination among the units in development cooperation. (Specific conclusions will be sent to participants).
