QH.2024 Students Excited to Try on Yukata – When Japanese Culture Comes Alive at ULIS
From May 7th to May 9th, 2025, the Faculty of Japanese Language and Culture, University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi organized a series of Yukata experiential activities for QH.2024 students of the Faculty.

Yukata is a traditional Japanese garment typically worn in the summer. Made from cool cotton fabric, with an elegant design and vibrant colors, the Yukata not only reflects the unique aesthetic of Japanese culture but also embodies its cultural spirit.

Under the dedicated guidance of native Japanese lecturers and homeroom teachers, students were introduced to the origins and cultural significance of Yukata in everyday Japanese life. They also had the chance to choose Yukata styles according to their preferences, learn how to wear it properly, and coordinate it with accessories such as Obi belts, Geta sandals, and hair ornaments, creating complete and harmonious outfits.
Memorable moments were captured through many radiant photos. For many students, this was their first time wearing traditional Japanese attire. The activity also served as a new and meaningful experience in their first year at university.

Van Nguyet Minh (Class 24J2) shared: “Participating in this event, I felt that it was extremely meaningful and practical. It not only helped me gain a deeper understanding of Japanese culture but also gave me the opportunity to bond with my classmates. I truly hoped the Faculty would organize more enriching programs like this in the future.”

Nguyen Anh Tung (Class 24J2) also shared his feelings: “This was truly a very special experience. Putting on a Yukata felt like being transported into the heart of Japanese culture. I not only learned many interesting things but also clearly felt the sophistication and attention to detail in every aspect of the garment. I sincerely hope the Faculty would continue to organize activities like this in the future, so that students could gain more opportunities to understand and appreciate the culture they were studying.”

The experience program not only helped students gain a deeper understanding of Japanese culture but also served as a bridge that fostered connection, passion, and inspiration for their learning journey.
