Establishment of the Vietnam Association for Korean Language Research and Teaching

On December 18, 2025, at ULIS – VNU Hanoi, the Congress of the Vietnam Association for Korean Language Research and Teaching was held, marking the official establishment of the Association. This milestone represents a new stage in the development of Korean language research and teaching in Vietnam, while creating an official academic forum connecting lecturers, researchers, teachers, and individuals interested in the Korean language nationwide.

The Congress was attended by representatives of ULIS – VNU Hanoi, led by Dr. Do Tuan Minh, Party Secretary and Chairman of the University Council, along with leaders of affiliated units and the Board of Deans and staff of the Faculty of Korean Language and Culture. From the Republic of Korea, the program welcomed Ms. Lee Kawon, Specialist of the Overseas Education Support Division under the Ministry of Education of Korea, and Mr. An Hee Chul, Director of the Korean Language Center in Ho Chi Minh City.

The event also gathered representatives of academic and professional associations in linguistics and language education in Vietnam, together with a large number of delegates from universities nationwide offering training and research in Korean studies, as well as administrators, lecturers, and students interested in this field.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Tran Thi Huong, Dean of the Faculty of Korean Language and Culture, ULIS – VNU Hanoi, presented a report on the establishment process and preparations for the Congress. She highlighted the strong development of Korean language teaching and research in Vietnam over the past three decades, particularly recent progress at the secondary education level, and emphasized the necessity of a national professional organization to connect, orient, and enhance training quality.

Congratulatory speeches were delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Lan Trung, President of the Linguistic Society of Vietnam, who emphasized the important role of the Korean language in the context of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea, and by Mr. An Hee Chul, who highlighted the growing significance of Korean language education in an era of globalization and international cooperation.

During the Congress, the decision to establish the Vietnam Association for Korean Language Research and Teaching was officially announced. The Congress also elected and introduced the Standing Committee and the first-term membership list, with Dr. Tran Thi Huong elected as President of the Association.

The Congress concluded successfully, marking the establishment of a professional organization of great significance to the development of Korean studies in Vietnam. The event is expected to contribute to improving the quality of Korean language education and strengthening academic, educational, and cultural cooperation between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea in the coming years
