On April 7, 2025, the final round of the “Chinese Speaking Contest” was successfully held by the Faculty of Chinese Language and Culture, University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS – VNU), with sponsorship from the Chinese Cultural Center in Hanoi.

The event was part of the activities celebrating the Vietnam–China Year of People-to-People Exchange, the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries (January 18, 1950 – January 18, 2025), and the upcoming 70th anniversary of the Faculty’s founding, as well as the International Chinese Language Day.

Attending the event were Mr. Zhang Deshan – Director of the Chinese Cultural Center in Hanoi, Dr. Pham Minh Tien – Dean of the Faculty of Chinese Language and Culture, along with numerous lecturers, students, language experts, and families supporting the contestants.

After a general knowledge quiz on Chinese history, culture, and customs, contestants continued with two rounds: individual presentations and a talent showcase

For the presentation round, students delivered speeches in Chinese on the topic: “As a young Vietnamese in the digital era, how would you tell a ‘Vietnam story’?” In the talent round, contestants impressed the judges and audience with traditional Chinese performances such as singing, dancing, poetry recitals, calligraphy, and drama, incorporating both cultural depth and youthful energy.

Student Dang Hoang Minh Hieu won first prize for his outstanding performance throughout the competition. Two second prizes went to Nguyen Thi Lien Anh and Trinh Thi Thu Huong. The organizers also awarded three third prizes, six consolation prizes, and one prize for the most popular contestant on social media.

Representatives of the Faculty of Chinese Language and culture emphasized that the contest was not only a platform to challenge students’ Chinese speaking abilities but also an opportunity to express their love for Chinese language and culture. It encouraged creativity, public speaking, and the role of students as cultural ambassadors fostering stronger people-to-people ties between Vietnam and China.
