Open Day for the Bachelor’s Program in Transnational Cultural & Media Studies: A Promising Field of Study at ULIS

On April 13th, 2025, at the Sunwah Hall – University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS), Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), the Faculty of English Language and Culture successfully organized an Open Day to introduce the Bachelor’s program in Transnational Cultural & Media Studies.

The event was honored by the attendance of Dr. Hoa Ngoc Son – ULIS Vice President, alongside representatives of the University’s leadership, faculty members, students of the Transnational Cultural & Media Studies program, and notably, many high school students and their parents who are keenly interested in this dynamic new field of study.

In his remarks, Dr. Hoa Ngoc Son emphasized that although the program is relatively new, it has already drawn significant interest from students and parents. He affirmed that the curriculum is designed with a liberal, multidisciplinary, and globally updated orientation. With the dedication and vision of the faculty, the program has successfully enrolled its first two cohorts – dynamic, creative, and highly potential students. The Vice President expressed his strong belief that this field of study will open up various career pathways for students in the digital era.

One of the highlights of the event was the awarding ceremony of the Blue Waves Media Contest – an annual media competition exclusively for students of the program. The contest has become an essential creative platform, enabling students to showcase their media talents and passion through diverse formats such as videos, leaflets, and other innovative communication products. The works presented were thoughtful, well-executed, and carried strong personal imprints that left a lasting impression on the audience.

Following the awards ceremony, a thematic panel discussion titled “Transnational Cultural Media: Career Stories” took place in an engaging and open atmosphere. The discussion featured ULIS lecturers with deep academic expertise and guest speakers including industry professionals and alumni currently working in international media and communication fields. Through their real-life experiences and heartfelt sharing, the speakers not only inspired attendees with valuable career insights but also highlighted the growing diversity of job opportunities and emerging trends in the field. Their honest advice served as a meaningful guide for students standing at the threshold of important academic choices.

This Open Day not only introduced an academic program but also reaffirmed the appeal and sustainable development potential of a young yet promising discipline. With a liberal education philosophy, a devoted teaching staff, and a vibrant learning environment at ULIS, the Bachelor’s program in Transnational Cultural & Media Studies is set to remain a top choice for students who are passionate about culture, driven by creativity, and aspire to become global citizens.
