1.Academic background

Professor Nguyen Hoa received a BA in English Studies from the Hanoi Teacher Education College, a BA in Linguistics from the Hanoi University (now Vietnam National University, Hanoi). He earned his MA from the University of Canberra, Australia in 1990, and Ph.D. from Vietnam National University in 1999. From 1995 to 2012, he was the Chair of linguistics, Dean of the Faculty of English Language and Culture from 1999 to 2003. In 2003, he was promoted Vice-President of the University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS) – VNU, and served as its president from 2008 to end of January 2016.

He became an associate professor in 2003, and full professor in 2007.
