On August 6th, 2018, the University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University had a meeting with the representatives of Mahasarakham University (Thailand).

At the beginning of the meeting, Vice President Lam Quang Dong extended his warm welcome to the delegates of  Mahasarakham University for visiting and working with ULIS. He said that Thai language was being taught as a second foreign language at ULIS and the University really hoped to contribute to the popularity of this language in Vietnam by initially teaching this language at Foreign Language Specialized School (FLSS). He also welcomed the lecturer and student exchange between the two universities, which would open up more opportunities for cooperation, thereby enhancing cultural exchange among Southeast Asian countries.

Mr. Kanokporn Rattanasuteerakul, the representative of Mahasarakham University, expressed his gratitude to the great reception of ULIS and desired an active cooperation between the two universities in the future. He also proposed an annual workshop between the two universities or among universities of the Greater Mekong Subregion.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed on initial feasible activities. On this occasion, Vice President Lam Quang Dong also extended his invitation to the teachers of Mahasarakham University to participate in the next conferences organised by ULIS.

With 18 faculties, 2 colleges and 1 school currently operating, MSU has been widely recognized as one of Thailand’s fastest-growing universities. The total enrollment has also increased, from fewer than 10,000 in its earlier years to more than 40,000 students at present. Many faculty buildings have been constructed on Khamriang Campus, now the administrative and academic center.
