On January 3rd, 2018, University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS) held the briefing meeting of January, 2018,
chaired by President Do Tuan Minh.

The meeting was also attended by Vice President Dr. Ngo Minh Thuy, the president of ULIS labour union, the secretary of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth union of ULIS, Directors of functional offices, centers, the principal of Foreign Language specialised school, Directors of Faculty of Graduate Studies and Faculty of Language Education & Professional Development.

From the outset, President Do Tuan Minh wished all the lecturers good health and success in the new year 2018, hoping that ULIS would have a fruitful year with a lot of achievements.

At the meeting, The President announced the decision of appointing Dr. Tran Thi Minh Phuong as the Vice Dean of Faculty of Japanese language and culture. Dr. Tran Thi Minh Phuong expressed her appreciation to the Governing Board’s and her faculty’s trust. She also promised to do her best in work.

According to the record of the representative of each unit and the Vice President, President Do Tuan Minh reviewed the work activities of each unit in the last months. In December 2017, ULIS completed and organized successfully various activities and events such as: Organizing national level workshop which published research findings and introduced the module of learning language between students who major in foreign language and students who do not; Organizing the first library workshop named “Library with self – research and information knowledge development for learners”; Organizing the workshop for pre – acceptance the planning materials for project of center training and promoting language teacher and lecturer; Organizing the traditional meeting for the 73rd anniversary of the foundation of the Vietnam People’s Army and the 28th National Defense Day ; organising meetings between individuals and excellent representatives of departments commended in 2016 and 2017; Graduation Ceremony for 183 medium-sized students studying English, Chinese and Japanese in 2017; meetings between school leaders and employees and the ones expected to retire in 2018 …

At the meeting, President Do Tuan Minh emphasized the key tasks in the first quarter of 2018: complete the steps to approve, recognize, promote and ensure the quality of Japanese, Chinese and Korean advanced curricula; complete the steps to get approved for junior secondary education in Foreign Language Specialized ​​School; deploy the first phase of the Northwest program taught by the University; complete the project on building an online training center for teaching methods and pedagogical skills under National Foreign Language Project; Fulfill the plan of equipping facilities and equipment in the period from 2016 to 2021.

Celebrating the 1st anniversary of the establishment of the Resource Development Center, MSc. Nguyen Van Son – Director of the Center had a short report summarizing the results of activities in 2017. In general evaluation, the Center had many initiatives which helped the school to manage and use effectively facilities, therefore the Center was highly appreciated by the Board of Directors.

In addition, the teachers discussed the six key missions of the school in 2018 and five proposals at the beginning of the year. . At the same time, the Rector instructed the work to be carried out early in January, especially the statistical report on the performance of completing tasks in 2017 (text, science and technology products, activities of development cooperation, etc).
