University of Languages and International Studies, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS – VNU) enhances the cooperation with Nara Women’s University, Japan

On August 31st, 2018, ULIS held a meeting with representatives of Nara Women’s University, Japan.

The meeting was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Minh Thuy – ULIS’s Vice President, Dr. Bui Dinh Thang – Vice Director of Cooperation and Development Office, M.A. Nguyen Van Doan – Vice Director of Politics and Student Affairs Office, Dr. Tran Kieu Hue – Vice Dean of the Faculty of Japanese Language and Culture (FJLC) and M.A. Pham Thi Thu Ha – Head of the Division of Japanese Linguistics – FJLC.

From Nara Women’s University side, Ms. Kuwahara Midori – Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Ms. Matsunaga Mitsuyo – a lecturer from International Exchange Center attended this meeting.

Nara Women’s University is a national women’s university located in the city of Nara, the central area of Japan. Since its establishment in 1908, Nara Women’s University has played an important role in training highly-educated women in Japan. This university provides training for about 2500 students each year and has a reputation for good training quality. It offers a wide range of training programs from kindergarten education to doctoral courses. At undergraduate level, it has 3 faculties, the Faculty of Literature, the Faculty of Natural Science and the Faculty of Environment. The University has its own Kindergarten, Elementary and Secondary Schools.

ULIS and Nara Women’s University have been cooperating since December 3rd, 2009. Over the past nine years, the two universities have implemented a variety of collaborative programs. Regarding student exchange, 3 ULIS students have chance to come to Japan to study without paying any tuition fee for one academic year and vice versa. Besides, ULIS also sends 3 – 4 students (including students who major in English) to attend a 10-day summer exchange course with full or partial expenditure supported by Nara Women’s University. Nara Women’s University also sends lectures and other senior staff to teach at ULIS as well as accepting ULIS students to study at the University under the scholarship program of the Japanese government.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to maintain and enhance the cooperation to a higher level and launch some other cooperation programs. Moreover, representatives of the two universities also reached a collective agreement on a plan in which Nara Women’s University sends post-graduate students to ULIS to do their internship and work as teaching assistants, accepts graduates majoring in Japanese and other languages to study for master or doctoral degrees as well as creating opportunities for ULIS students, especially ones from the honour programs to study in Japan in 2018.

The meeting between ULIS – VNU and Nara Women’s University finished in a successful environment. Both sides look forward to a further promising and durable cooperation between the two universities.
