According to the cooperation agreement signed on September 5th 2018, the University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University of Hanoi (ULIS-VNU) and the Embassy of France in Vietnam will jointly establish the first “French Cultural Space” in Hanoi.

On September 5th 2018, ULIS, VNU held a signing ceremony with the Embassy of France in Vietnam.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Do Tuan Minh – ULIS’s president, M.A. Mai Van Hoa – Deputy Director of Cooperation and Development Office, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Hong Van – Dean of the Faculty of French Language and Culture (FFLC), Dr. Dang Thi Thanh Thuy and Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hoa – Vice Deans of FFLC. In addition, Prof. Jean-Marc Mangiante and Dr. Tran Thi Thu Hoai from the Artios University (France) took part in the ceremony.

At the ceremony, representatives from the two sides signed a joint cooperation agreement. Within the framework of the Embassy’s policy on popularizing French language and culture, the two sides agreed to cooperate in establishing a reception office to introduce and provide information about France and Francophone Community with the name “Escape France” or “French Cultural Space” at ULIS’s campus. In addition to primarily serving students and staff of ULIS, the activities of French Cultural Space will serve all high schools using French language in their curriculum in Hanoi, neighboring provinces and French-speaking community.

The activities of French Cultural Space include assisting French language teachers of ULIS and high schools in Hanoi through in-class activities/teaching support; assisting the teaching process and the management of educational projects of French Teachers Association in Hanoi; providing information about study in France; contributing to the operation of the Vietnamese alumni network in France and establishing the Culture and Film Club at ULIS. The cooperation is valid for the 2018-2019 school year and can be renewed in the future.

Addressing at the ceremony, Mr. Étienne Rolland-Piègue asserted that the ceremony was an important moment as it marked the establishment of French Cultural Space at ULIS, where the Compound of FFLC was inaugurated in 1984. This Compound was designed by French people and built from materials brought from France.

President Do Tuan Minh said that the opening of French Cultural Space at ULIS was very meaningful. He hoped that this place would be a gateway for the university to expand its cooperation with French-speaking units in the region. He also affirmed that the managers of French Cultural Space would certainly be welcomed as a member of ULIS.

The University was particularly honored to collaborate with the Embassy of France in Vietnam to open the first French Cultural Space in Hanoi.

The signing ceremony between ULIS and the Embassy of France in Vietnam ended successfully, marking the presence of French Cultural Space at ULIS.
