On January 4th, 2025, amidst the crisp and refreshing winter morning air, Ulis Middle School, in collaboration with ULIS – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), Ba Vi District Education Office, and primary schools in Ba Vi District, successfully organized the seminar titled “Building an ESL Environment in Primary Schools.”

Attending the seminar, representing the University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS), were Mr. Do Tuan Minh – Chairman of the University Council, Mr. Nguyen Lan Trung – Former Vice Rector of ULIS, Mr. Hoa Ngoc Son – Vice Rector of ULIS, Ms. Nguyen Huyen Trang – Principal of the ULIS Secondary School, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Giang – Vice Principal of the ULIS Secondary School, along with 25 teachers representing the ULIS Secondary School.

From Ba Vi District, the attendees included Mr. Do Manh Hung – Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ba Vi District, Mr. Phung Tan Nhi – Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ba Vi District Party Committee, Mr. Nguyen Duc Anh – Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ba Vi District, Mr. Phung Ngoc Oanh – Head of the Education and Training Office of Ba Vi District, Ms. Dang Thi Kim Tuyen – Deputy Head of the Education and Training Office of Ba Vi District, along with the management boards of primary schools and teachers representing English teachers at the primary level across the district.

Designed as a train journey departing from Ulis Middle School, ULIS-VNU, to Ba Vi District, the seminar featured engaging and dynamic presentations by representatives from ULIS, Ulis Middle School, and the reporting teachers. The presentations highlighted the seminar’s objectives, implementation methods, candid discussions on challenges, and detailed approaches from ULIS Middle School’s project to make English the second language in schools. The practical activities and vivid images of the project being implemented at ULIS Middle School served as motivation and encouragement for the principals of primary schools within the Ba Vi District Education Office, especially for the three pioneering schools: Van Thang Primary School, Co Do Primary School, and Chau Son Primary School.

Amidst the enthusiastic and attentive participation of all teachers, the seminar was conducted successfully. In his closing remarks, Mr. Do Minh Tuan reaffirmed ULIS’s commitment to accompanying Ba Vi District Education Office teachers in implementing the project. Ms. Nguyen Huyen Trang extended an invitation to Ba Vi teachers to visit and witness the project in action at Ulis Middle School.

The successful seminar “Building an ESL Environment in Primary Schools” has marked a significant milestone, strengthening the close relationship between ULIS-VNU, UMS, Ba Vi District People’s Committee, and Ba Vi District Education Office. It is hoped that the success of this seminar will provide valuable experience and guidance for primary schools in the district, particularly the three pioneering schools: Van Thang Primary School, Co Do Primary School, and Chau Son Primary School, on their journey to implement the project at the grassroots level 

After the seminar, the goal of implementing the ESL environment in primary schools in Ba Vi District is certain to see a favorable new beginning. With the determination to make English the second language in schools, the University of Languages and International Studies, Ulis Middle School, and the primary schools in Ba Vi District are bound to achieve remarkable breakthroughs in the near future.
