On November 15, 2025, the University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS–VNU) solemnly held the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Faculty of Chinese Language and Culture (1955–2025) under the theme “Keeping the Flame of Tradition – Lighting Up the Future”. The event honored generations of lecturers and provided an opportunity for alumni to gather, reconnect, and share memories with their alma mater.

The year 2025 marks a milestone of seven decades of establishment and development of the Faculty of Chinese Language and Culture – ULIS. As one of the oldest units of the University and the first Chinese language training institution in Vietnam, the Faculty has contributed significantly to foreign-language education, cultural exchange, and cooperation between Vietnam and China. Over the years, it has trained numerous excellent students, many of whom now hold important positions nationally and internationally, contributing to the country’s development and integration.

On this special occasion, a series of cultural, artistic, and academic activities were held with the participation of scholars, lecturers, students, alumni, and partners from both Vietnam and abroad.

Attendees included Nguyen Vinh Quang, Vice President of the Vietnam–China Friendship Association; representatives of the Chinese Embassy; leaders of education departments; partner organizations; and the leadership team of ULIS along with faculty members, alumni, and students.

Opening the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hien, Head of the Faculty of Chinese Language and Culture, emphasized that the Faculty was founded with the mission of training human resources for the Party and the State’s diplomatic work. Over the past 70 years, the Faculty has developed into a leading center for Chinese studies and Chinese language teaching in Vietnam and the region. He highlighted that the Faculty’s teaching staff demonstrate high professionalism and dedication, while extracurricular activities create opportunities for students to develop both knowledge and essential competencies. Thanks to these efforts, the Faculty’s training quality continues to be recognized, with employment rates reaching 100% and graduates securing stable career paths.

At the ceremony, the Faculty was awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for outstanding achievements in education and contributions to national development. On behalf of ULIS, Dr. Do Tuan Minh, Chairman of the University Council, presented the award to the Faculty’s leadership.

In his congratulatory remarks, Dr. Do Tuan Minh praised the achievements of the Faculty of Chinese Language and Culture and expressed gratitude to generations of lecturers and students for their dedication. He stated: “Seventy years ago, in 1955, along with the Faculty of Russian Language and Culture, the Faculty of Chinese Language and Culture laid the foundation for what is today the University of Languages and International Studies. The history of the Faculty is an integral part of the history of ULIS — a place where generations of teachers and students have contributed passion, intellect, and effort. Today, with a dynamic and highly qualified academic team — 77.36% holding doctoral degrees, the highest rate in the University — the Faculty stands as a leading institution for Chinese language training in Vietnam and the region.”

Speaking at the ceremony, Counselor La Dieu Quang of the Chinese Embassy affirmed that ULIS is one of the most reputable foreign-language institutions in Vietnam, having trained many generations of language and international-studies specialists. He emphasized that the Faculty of Chinese Language and Culture, founded in 1955, has nurtured thousands of students who have become teachers, researchers, and diplomats contributing to Vietnam–China cultural and educational exchange.

Following the official ceremony, a Gala Night took place featuring musical and cultural performances from lecturers, students, and alumni across generations; interviews with long-standing faculty members; a commemorative video titled “Growth & Gratitude”; interactive mini-games; and the announcement of the Executive Board of the Faculty’s Alumni Association. The atmosphere was warm, vibrant, and deeply emotional.

Looking toward the future, the Faculty of Chinese Language and Culture aims to continue its pioneering role in training, research, and international cooperation in Chinese language and culture in Vietnam. Future plans include developing high-quality bilingual and international programs, expanding postgraduate training, enhancing scientific research and publication outputs, integrating digital technology and AI into teaching, and building a strong ecosystem connecting alumni, enterprises, and international scholars. These efforts will contribute to establishing a sustainable, innovative, and human-centered academic environment.
