Holding the field trip and the closing ceremony of practical course on interpreting and tourism for foreign affair officers, diplomatic receptionists and travel presenters from Northern border provinces

On September 6th and 7th, 2018, University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS-VNU) held a field trip in Ninh Binh and the closing ceremony for students of interpreting and tourism course for Foreign Affairs Officials and tourist guides from northern border provinces.

Field trip is one of the course’s programs aiming at providing the students with a real-world working environment and opportunity to practice what they have learnt, gain experience and interact with teachers as well as classmates.

The trip took place in Ninh Binh, the land of culture and famous tourist attractions, which is very suitable for interpreting, translating and practicing foreign languages. The first destination of the trip is Hoa Lu, the former capital city of Vietnam. In this exercise, the class was divided into 3 small groups which were English for tourism, Chinese and English interpreting. The 3 groups simultaneously made presentations about famous tourist attractions of Hoa Lu in 3 languages: English, Chinese and Vietnamese.

The second destination was Trang An compound where the students enjoyed a beautiful landscape of Vietnam and also had the opportunity to interact with foreign tourists as well as local people to learn more about different cultures and foster soft skills to serve their own jobs.

The last place of the trip was Bai Dinh Pagoda where participants were deeply involved in the practice of guiding tours in English as well as interpreting in a mock conference.

At the end of the trip, with a cheerful atmosphere, students participated in a formal presentation on the third day of the program as well as the course’s closing ceremony in the afternoon of the same day.
