Seminar on development of the first Arabic-Vietnamese Dictionary

On February 21st, 2020, ULIS – VNU held a seminar to discuss the development of an Arabic-Vietnamese dictionary. This is the first Arabic-Vietnamese dictionary in Vietnam developed by the Division of Arabic Language and Culture.

The seminar was attended by Vice President Lam Quang Dong, management board and lecturers of the Department of Arabic Language and Culture, and experts.

Speaking at the seminar, Vice President Lam Quang Dong spoke highly of the efforts of the Division of Arabic Language and Culture in compiling the Arabic-Vietnamese dictionary. “The dictionary will mark a new milestone in Arabic language training in Vietnam and contribute to the development of Arabic teaching and research at ULIS in particular and Vietnam in general” he added.

The dictionary will consist of 11 thousand lexical entries, arranged in the order of the Arabic alphabet. The vocabulary is selected from the most common words, ensuring the ratio among word categories. The compilation team consists of 10 lecturers. The project started on September 15th, 2017 and is expected to be appraised at the university level on October 30th, 2020.
