On October 4, 2025, at Sunwah Hall, ULIS – VNU held the national scientific conference with the theme “Assessment, Evaluation and Quality Assurance in Education in the digital transformation era”. This was the 14th conference within the framework of the national conference “Research and Teaching of foreign language, Linguistics and International studies in Vietnam” (UNiC 2025), it was held in celebration of the university’s 70th anniversary.

Opening the conference, Vice President Lam Quang Dong extended his thanks to distinguished guests, researchers, scholars and graduate students for their attendance in this conference. Emphasizing the importance of improving the quality of teaching, assessment, evaluation in the digital era, Assoc. Dr. Lam Quang Dong expressed his belief that the scientific conference served as a platform for researchers and scholars to share new approaches in research of assessment, evaluation and quality assurance in foreign language education.

At the plenary session, Dr. Tran Thi Thu Huong from University of Education – VNU delivered a report titled “Trends in Assessment and Quality Assurance in Education in Vietnam and around the world in the context of digital transformation”. In her presentation, the speaker indicated current challenges in education in Vietnam, especially the limits of traditional methods of assessment. In the digital age, with technological assistance, many forms of computer-based assessment have recently been implemented. However, Dr. Tran Thi Thu Huong emphasized that technology is not meant to replace humans, but rather to support and enhance education, making it fairer, more transparent, and more effective.

The Dean of the Faculty of English Language and Culture Vu Thi Thanh Nha also gave a presentation titled “The use of AI tools in assessing English in Vietnam: Opportunities and Challenges”. According to the speaker, AI can assist in giving responses or feedback immediately for each individual, thereby helping data analysis or even reducing stress for students when taking English language proficiency tests. There are drawbacks, however, when using AI in providing in-depth comments or recommendations for students, and the excessive dependence on practicing or taking tests. Dr. Vu Thi Thanh Nha supposed that the collaboration between AI and humans can lead to outcomes that surpass human capabilities.

Reports in the poster session also took place with various themes surrounding the reconstruction of assessment and evaluation in the AI era; assessing the reliability and creativity of AI tools, as well as analyzing the needs and concerns of students regarding computer-based testing.

The national scientific conference “Assessment and Quality Assurance in education in the digital transformation era” concluded successfully with a networking session and commemorative photo-taking. The conference provided an opportunity for researchers and graduate students to analyze, evaluate, and thoroughly examine technological changes during the digital transformation period, thereby enhancing the quality of foreign language teaching and learning.
