ULIS – VNU attended the Forum on “Capacity Building and Training for the Effective Implementation of English as a Second Language in Schools”

On August 22, 2025, a delegation from the University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS–VNU) attended the Forum on “Capacity Building and Training for the Effective Implementation of English as a Second Language in Schools” hosted by the University of Foreign Language Studies – The University of Danang.

The Forum brought together more than 150 teachers from primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary schools in Da Nang, Quang Ngai, and Dak Lak.

The ULIS delegation included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Tuan Minh – Chairman of the University Council, Dr. Vu Thi Thanh Nha – Dean of the Faculty of English Language and Culture, Dr. Nguyen Phu Chien – Principal of ULIS High School for Gifted Students, Dr. Nguyen Huyen Trang – Principal of ULIS Middle School, and Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Huong – Deputy Head of the Office for Science & Technology and Development.

With four presentations and two plenary discussions, the Forum offered diverse perspectives from domestic and international experts and education administrators, focusing on enhancing professional competence, teaching capacity, and the roadmap for making English a second language in schools. The presentations highlighted the importance of teacher training and professional development, introduced practical models and solutions, and shared international experiences in continuous professional development for English teachers.

At the Forum, many experts delivered presentations on the role of language training in implementing the national policy, international perspectives and research on teacher professional development, and solutions to promote the roadmap for making English a second language in the national education system. In addition, delegates exchanged international experiences, identified opportunities and challenges in the implementation process, and proposed solutions to enhance teachers’ capacity while emphasizing the role of universities and local Departments of Education and Training in supporting, monitoring, and accompanying schools.

The Forum was recognized as a concrete step contributing to laying an important foundation for the implementation of the National Project on “Making English a Second Language in Schools,” towards building a more modern, integrated, and effective foreign language learning environment in the future.
