On December 22^nd, 2023, ULIS-VNU organized a workshop under the topic: ” Analysis of Vietnamese Conversation for Beginners”. This was an activity within the framework of the International Conference “Language and social interaction in Asian contexts”, part of the series of events of UNC2024.

Text analysis or conversation analysis is a scientific research method that has not received much attention in Vietnam or the world. The workshop was organized to highlight the importance of conversation analysis in the academic field. The workshop included two parts: a theoretical part and a practical part on conversation analysis.

In the basic theory part, the speakers shared the goals of conversation analysis and the steps to analyze conversations.

In the practical part, scholars and researchers worked together to perform five conversation analysis exercises in Vietnamese. Through the exercises prepared by the two speakers, workshop participants better understood how to analyze text and had questions surrounding this issue answered.

Also, the participants had a discussion with one another and with the speakers about methods and steps to analyze conversations.
