On March 14th, 2018, ULIS- VNU held a meeting of 2018 First Quarter chaired by Mr. Do Tuan Minh – the President of ULIS. The meeting was also attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Minh Thuy – Vice President of ULIS, Dr. Ngo Xuan Long – Vice President of ULIS, the Chairman of Labor Union, the Secretary of the Youth Union, the representatives of ULIS’s units.

At the meeting, Mr. Do Tuan Minh – the President of ULIS showed his appreciation to all units’ efforts to complete tasks in the first quarter of 2018. About  the task completion report in 2018 first quarter and plans for the second quarter report, reports on the situations of working regulations and training regulations at Faculties for training and for serving education in the university showed that all units have completed many important tasks in the first three months of the year and have enforced the regulation strictly.

Five key tasks completed in the first quarter of 2018:

•Approved by the President of Vietnam National University, Ha Noi to train three high quality tuition-based training programs according to Circular No. 23 of the Ministry of Education and Training.

•Completed the secondary level training project at ULIS

•Developing the first theme of  Science and Technology Project at state level under the Northwest Program.

•Finalization and packaging of the project on building an online training center on edicational methods and pedagogy under project NNQG 2020

•Completed the draft plan on physical facilities and school equipment in the period 2016-2021.

Outstanding results in the first quarter of 2018:

•Management, organization, personnel: Completion of statistical reports and classification of staff; Successfully organized the conference in 2017 and deployed work in 2018.

•Student Training and Testing: Completed adjusting the management of dual training model; Enrollment, implementation of admission, organization of the opening ceremony for the students admitted in University through education-while-studying program, collaborating with the Military Medical Academy 103; Proposing the tasks of the National Foreign Language Project 2020, additional funding in 2017 and the implementation plan for the period 2018-2025.

• Science and Technology: Published the 1st issue of the VNU Journal of Foreign Studies; Successfully organized the discussion relating to international announcement; Coordinated well in organizing international seminar of Education in Japan and ASEAN countries.

• Cooperation for development: successfully joint organized a meeting by Ambassador of Craig Chittick; Organized a field trip for foreign teachers and students working and studying on campus during the occasion of the new year.

• Corporate work: Organized meetings with officials in early 2018; Successfully organized the ULIS Teambuilding Day 2018; Successfully held the celebration of Traditional student’s day and Vietnamese Students’ Association; In collaboration with the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, the blood donation program “January Sun” was successfully organized.

Key tasks for the second quarter of 2018:

• Hold the end-of-term examinations for the second semester of the school year 2017-2018; Hold the thesis examination for QH2014 students; Hold the graduation examination and accreditation for students of the second program.

• Prepare and organize the postgraduate entrance exam in the first quater of 2018; Recruit grade 10 student for Foreign Language Specialized School; Consider a formal university admission in 2018.

• Prepare for the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the English Faculty and the 40th anniversary of the Language Education & Professional Development Faculty’s establishment.

• Hold 2018 Student Festival for Creativity – Science Researching  – Entrepreneurship and Grant Convocation of Student’s Association.

•Organize a National science workshop of ULIS-VNU in 2018 for teaching staff and development and cooperation conference for the second time.

•Publish the 2nd and 3th vol of Foreign Research Magazine; Continue the National Science and Technology Project under the Northwest Program.

•Develop plans, prepare for staff to go on summer vacation 2018…

After this report, the meeting moved on to the discussion of up-coming tasks and activities for each unit in the second quater of 2018. In addition, representatives also contributed their opinion on Development of Organization Structure Draft in 2025, vision to 2035 and targets framework for 2015-2025, estimated by 2035.

Notably, The Governing Broad and offices’ delegates had donated to help students with special needs that are currently studying in the university. The donated money in this meeting is 13.750.000 Vietnamese dong.

To conclude the meeting, Dr. Do Tuan Minh directed each office on their future tasks. The President stated that the second quater would be an important time of the year, when many big events would take place, therefore, each office needed to work hard and give their best.
