Manuscript review session held for two volumes on Foreign Language Teacher Competency in Vietnam

On the afternoon of March 31, 2025, the appraisal session for two book manuscripts entitled “Volume 1: Teacher Competency in Vietnam: Competencies, Context and Adaptive Expertise” and “Volume 3: Teacher Competency in Vietnam: Teaching” took place.

These two volumes are part of the first comprehensive series developed by Vietnamese scholars for Vietnamese readers, dedicated to exploring the Foreign Language Teacher Competency Framework.

The meeting was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Tuan Minh – Chairman of the University Council, representatives from the Office of Academic Affairs, Office of Science & Technology and Development Cooperation, Faculty of English Language Teacher Education, Council members, Chief Editor Dr. Diana Dudzik, and the authoring team.

Opening the session, Dr. Tran Thi Lan Anh – representative of the authoring team – introduced the book series titled “I LOVE TO LEARN, TEACH, SHARE: The Practice of Foreign Language Teaching”. This was the first academic work that provided an in-depth and comprehensive insight into the Foreign Language Teacher Competency Framework, primarily developed by ULIS lecturers in collaboration with Dr. Diana Dudzik.

She emphasized that the book series aimed to provide both theoretical and practical foundations for the design of teacher education and professional development programs in Vietnam, targeting mainly pre-service graduate students and in-service foreign language teachers. A notable feature of the series was its use of real-life teaching contexts in Vietnam, presented in accessible language suitable especially for learners at the B2 level, making the content approachable and relatable.

In addition to providing a robust theoretical foundation drawn from both local and international research, the series is also designed to enhance the professional competencies of foreign language teachers, student-teachers, and teacher educators at ULIS – VNU as well as at other teacher training institutions across the country.

During the session, Council members gave constructive feedback on the structure and content of “Volume 1: Teacher Competency in Vietnam: Competencies, Context and Adaptive Expertise” and “Volume 3: Teacher Competency in Vietnam: Teaching”. The authoring team responded with reflections and proposals for revisions to enhance the overall quality and effectiveness of the publications.

During the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Tuan Minh shared his encouragement for the authoring team and highly appreciated their dedication and achievements. He also offered several suggestions regarding future directions for promoting and leveraging the value of the book series.

The session concluded on a high note with active discussions and numerous valuable contributions from the participants.
