Scientific Seminar “Femininity in the Flow of Time”: Spreading the Values of Women in Modern Life

On March 5, 2026, at Vu Dinh Lien Hall, the University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi organized the scientific seminar “Femininity in the Flow of Time”. The program was jointly implemented by the University Trade Union and the Office of Science, Technology & Development Cooperation with the aim of honoring the beauty, intellect, and resilience of women, while creating a space for academic exchange on multidimensional perspectives of “femininity” in contemporary society on the occasion of International Women’s Day (March 8).

Attending the program, on the side of the University of Languages and International Studies – VNU were representatives of the Board of Management, the Executive Committee of the University Trade Union, along with a large number of staff, lecturers, employees, and interested guests.

In the opening remarks, Dr. Hoa Ngoc Son – Vice Rector of the University extended his congratulations to all female staff, lecturers, employees, and learners on the occasion of International Women’s Day (March 8). In his speech, the Vice Rector emphasized the role and significant contributions of women to the development of the University as well as to social life. At the same time, Dr. Hoa Ngoc Son expressed his hope that the seminar would become a meaningful space for sharing, where speakers and participants could exchange multidimensional perspectives on “femininity”, thereby spreading the positive values of women in modern society.

The seminar featured a variety of rich contents, including presentations and academic exchange activities

The program began with the presentation “Femininity as an Epistemic Sensibility” delivered by Dr. Phung Ha Thanh – Vice Dean of the Faculty of English Language and Culture. The presentation approached the concept of “femininity” from academic and scientific perspectives, analyzing its manifestations in intellectual life, in research, as well as in the personal development journey of each woman. In addition to scientific arguments, the speaker also shared personal experiences in study and work, thereby opening up reflections on women’s journeys of self-affirmation in academic environments.

This was followed by the presentation “Reflections on Women through Several Recent Films (‘Quan Ky Nam’, ‘Mui Pho’, ‘Tho Oi’)” delivered by Dr. Ho Thi Giang – Foreign Language Specialized High School. Through the analysis of these films, the speaker provided emotional and multidimensional perspectives on the image of women in modern life. Female characters were portrayed in diverse shades, from strength and resilience to subtle emotional nuances in their inner lives, thereby reflecting the movement of “femininity” in contemporary society.

Before the roundtable discussion, M.A. Van Thi Thanh Binh – Faculty of English Language and Culture initiated an interactive activity with the theme “The Colors of My Happiness”. Through the survey “The Colors of Readers’ Happiness” along with meaningful gifts for participants, the activity created an open and friendly atmosphere, encouraging everyone to reflect on the “tones” that shape happiness in their own lives.

Sharing at the program, a speaker emphasized:
“Modern women live with a very wholehearted heart, devoting themselves fully yet cannot be without ‘the self’. Through this survey, it is hoped that each of us will pursue our own happiness, and in doing so, we will create our own happiness.”

The seminar then moved into the roundtable discussion session with the participation of many experienced speakers. Here, numerous new ideas and perspectives were shared around the theme of “femininity” in the current social context. The speakers agreed that the beauty of modern women is not only reflected in outward appearance but also lies in confidence, health, self-love, and the ability to spread positive values to the community.

During the program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lam Quang Dong – Vice Rector shared his thoughts on the significance of honoring the image of women in the ULIS community, while expressing appreciation for the contributions of female staff, lecturers, and employees to the development of the University.

The atmosphere of the program became more vibrant with the award ceremony of the photo contest “It’s Me”. The contest was organized to honor the authentic beauty of ULIS women through meaningful everyday moments. Each entry offered a unique perspective on ULIS women – confident at work, dedicated in teaching, dynamic in life, and emotionally rich in simple daily moments. After a thorough evaluation process, the Jury selected outstanding works to be awarded and to spread beautiful images of ULIS women within the community.

In the closing remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ha Le Kim Anh – Vice Rector expressed her gratitude to the speakers, guests, and all staff who attended the program. She highly appreciated the insightful sharing and multidimensional perspectives presented at the seminar, while expressing hope that the values discussed would continue to be disseminated, contributing to building a humane, equitable, and inspiring academic environment at the University.

The seminar “Femininity in the Flow of Time” concluded in a warm atmosphere, leaving many meaningful reflections on the role and beauty of women in modern society, while contributing to spreading positive values and affirming the image of ULIS women as dynamic, confident, and full of aspiration to contribute.
