Seminar “The Status and Prospects of Korean Language Education in Primary and Junior high formal education institutions in Vietnam”
On December 18, 2025, at Vu Dinh Lien Hall, the University of Languages and International Studies -Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS-VNU), in collaboration with the International Korean Language Education Foundation organized a seminar on “The Status and Prospects of Korean Language Education in Primary and Junior high formal education institutions in Vietnam”. The seminar has attracted the interest and participation of managers, researchers, teachers and students. The program attracted the interest and participation of administrators, researchers, educators, and university students.

Participating in the seminar, representatives from the University of Languages and International Studies included Dr. Hoa Ngoc Son -Vice President, leaders of the University’s units, as well as the Management Board, staff and students of the Faculty of Korean Language & Culture.



On the Vietnamese side, the guests comprised Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Deputy Director General of the International Cooperation Department- Ministry of Education and Training; Mrs. Nguyen Thi Mai Huu, Head of the National Foreign Language Project Management Board- Ministry of Education and Training.
On the international side, the guests comprised Mr. Lim Yeong Dam, president of the International Korean Education Fund; Mr. Kim Joo Young, director of the Department for International Education Support- Ministry of Education; Prof. Chang So Won from Seoul National University and Prof. Lim Woong from Yonsei University.
The seminar also had the participation of a large number of administrators, researchers, and educators.

The seminar began with distinctive cultural performances presented by students of the Faculty of Korean Language & Culture and AC4U Club creating an energetic atmosphere.


In the opening remarks, Vice President Hoa Ngoc Son emphasized the significance of the panel discussion for shaping the direction and development of Korean language education at the general education level in Vietnam. He also reaffirmed ULIS’s commitment to contributing to the development of Korean language education in general education and in Vietnam in the future.

Continuing the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung shared perspectives on the context of Korean language education development in Vietnam. He also affirmed that the MOET is always willing to support and create favorable conditions for the implementation and development of Korean language teaching programs in Vietnam.

In this seminar, Mr. Lim Yeong Dam and Mr. Kim Joo Young expressed their sincere appreciation to the MOET, ULIS, as well as teachers in Vietnam for their contributions to promoting and developing Korean language education in Vietnam. They expressed their confidence that the seminar would help open up the perspectives and propose further directions for the Korean language training at formal primary and junior high education institutions in Vietnam.


Also speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Chang So Won presented an entitled “Korean Language Education at the General Education Level Overseas – Directions suitable for Vietnam”. The professor introduced a series of Korean language textbooks ranging from Pre-A1 to advanced C2 levels, as well as textbooks designed for the primary level featuring vivid and intuitive illustrations. This was also seen as an important step in enabling primary schools to access and integrate Korean language education into their curriculum.

Also as part of the seminar, the exhibition of books supporting and teaching Korean language skills attracted great interest from many attendees.

Immediately following this, Prof. Lim Woong presented “Korean Language Teaching Methods and the Application of AI”, sharing valuable information about AI-supported Korean learning, including text-to-speech, multimedia content creation, and AI-based practice exercises. The innovative approaches drew strong interest from students and contributed to more effective Korean language learning.


At the ceremony, Dr. Tran Thi Huong- Dean of the Faculty of Korean Language & Culture presented a report on strengthening the linkage between Korean language education at the general education and university in Vietnam, highlighting the growing popularity and future potential of Korean and outlining goals to improve teaching quality at ULIS. The seminar on “The Status and Prospects of Korean Language Education in Primary and Junior high formal education institutions in Vietnam” concluded after an active and constructive working session.
