VNU JOURNAL OF FOREIGN STUDIES: INAUGURATION CEREMONY

On March 16, 2017, VNU University of Languages and International Studies (VNU ULIS) held a ceremony to announce the establishment of VNU Journal of Foreign Studies.

At the ceremony, VNU ULIS Rector Đỗ Tuấn Minh said that ULIS was well aware of the important role of VNU Journal of Foreign Studies to the university’s comprehensive development, especially, its responsibility to provide a high quality scientific forum for national and international scientists to publish their research results in linguistics, foreign languages teaching, international studies in general and specific countries’ linguistic and country studies issues in particular.

VNU ULIS Rector Đỗ Tuấn Minh believed that with the Editorial Council’s expertise and support from VNU, the Journal would attract both national and international scholars to share their research results; the Journal would also be a good source of up-to-date scientific information.

Addressing the ceremony, VNU Vice President Nguyễn Hữu Đức congratulated and highly appreciated the effort of VNU ULIS and VNU Journal of Foreign Studies’ Editorial Council. He also affirmed that VNU always encouraged its members to promote their autonomy in building their own journals to meet the increasing demand for scientific research.

VNU Vice President Nguyễn Hữu Đức stressed that the establishment of VNU Journal of Foreign Studies was an example of VNU Journal of Science continuous development since 1985. He also hoped that scientists would actively publish their research papers through the Journal.

VNU Vice President proposed that VNU Journal of Science in general, VNU Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities and VNU Journal of Foreign Studies to should soon schedule their international integration, and in the first place should join the ASEAN database network with a focus on the following four criteria: online submission; professional editing, consulting and criticizing involving foreigners; meeting deadlines; and citation index.

At the ceremony, both Prof. Trần Văn Nhung – Secretary General of the State Council for Professor Titles and Prof. Trần Ngọc Thêm – Chairman of the State Council for Professor Titles in Linguistics, highly appreciated the foundation of VNU Journal of Foreign Studies as well as offered valuable suggestions for the Journal’s content and format. Prof. Trần Văn Nhung also suggested internationalizing the Journal’s publications and hoped that many of them would soon appear in prestigious ISI and Scopus indexed journals.

According to Prof. Trần Ngọc Thêm, VNU Journal of Foreign Studies inherited the traditional value from its predecessor – VNU Journal of Science and was one of the leading linguistics journals. He hoped that the Journal would keep enhancing its quality and promote its digitization in the coming times.

On behalf of the Journal Editorial Council, Editor-in-Chief Lâm Quang Đông said that the requirements for manuscripts, reviewing, editing and publishing remained the same as they had always been before.

VNU Journal of Foreign Studies publishes bimonthly in four Vietnamese editions and two English editions to publicize research articles that have not been previously published or submitted for consideration elsewhere in linguistics, language/foreign language education, international studies, and related social sciences and humanities.
