Choe Yeo Ji, 24 years old, from Korea, is currently a student of class 20C9 and has had a memorable journey studying at the Faculty of Chinese Language and Culture.

When interviewed about this journey, Choe Yeonji had extremely interesting words to share.

Can you share a little about the path that brought you to ULIS?

From a young age, I was very passionate and interested in the cultures of countries around the world, especially countries in the Asian region like Vietnam or China. Studying abroad had always been one of my cherished plans, and to make that dream come true, I had prepared very carefully. After a process of research and consideration, I chose ULIS as a stopover for 4 years of youth, because this is the leading university specializing in foreign language training and fostering in Vietnam.

When deciding to choose ULIS, I also wondered about my ability to graduate from university. According to my research, the ULIS curriculum is quite difficult. Besides, I’m not fluent in Vietnamese so I’m afraid I won’t understand the lesson and have trouble communicating in class. Therefore, I was always worried that I would not be able to complete the program well and graduate on time. Luckily, my lecturers and friends are always by my side to help me when I encounter difficulties, so I have gradually adapted to the learning environment here and become more and more interested in Vietnamese culture.

What are your feelings about Vietnamese people, teachers, friends and life and scenery at school?

My first impression is that people here are very friendly and easy to talk to. That made me step away from language barriers and common worries of international students. Teachers and friends are also the source of encouragement for me to try harder in my studies.

In addition, what I am most impressed with at ULIS is the beautiful landscape – both modern and classic with architecture that has existed for many decades. At first, when I first arrived at ULIS, I was truly overwhelmed by the French Construction and the campus filled with the scent of flowers. 

In your opinion, how will studying at ULIS help you in your career path ahead?

I think it’s a career opportunity. Not only focusing on theory, ULIS also develops and orients students on soft skills to support future jobs – something not every university has. This is also perhaps the outstanding difference of ULIS. In addition, ULIS is always looking for and creating opportunities for students to experience and work from their first years of university. That makes me feel like I’m not left behind and always receive special attention from the school.

Currently, I am preparing for the end of my student days at ULIS, so I plan to focus on studying to graduate and find a job suitable to the field I choose and study.

Hopefully in the near future, Choe Yeonji can fulfill her plans and develop in her work.
