On August 8th 2017, 2016-2017 End-school-year Conference and Conference for civil servants and employees in the school year 2017-2018 took place at Vu Dinh Lien Amphitheater of University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS), Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU).

The director of VNU, Nguyen Kim Son attended and addressed at the Conference. In addition, the conference received the attendance of representatives of departments of VNU including Dr. Do Tuan Minh – Secretary of ULIS’s institutional party/ President of ULIS, Assoc. Prof. Ngo Minh Thuy and Dr. Nguyen Xuan Long – ULIS’s Vice Presidents, and other distinguished guests.

At the conference, President Minh made a report about the implementation the resolution of Conference for civil servants and employees on the tasks of 2016-2017 school year and plan for 2017-2018 school year. In the last school year, ULIS achieved significant accomplishments such as quantitatively and qualitatively successful recruitment at 3 levels of training (Specialized high school, Undergraduate and Graduate); Development of the training program (TP) for Bachelors of Korean Language Teachers , Double-degree Bachelors of Japanese Language, Masters of German Language (in cooperation with University of Leipzig), Masters of Korean Language; the approval of Ministry of Information and Communication for Journal of Foreign Studies; the Signing of Comprehensive Cooperation with two Universities of foreign languages (University of Foreign Languages – Hue University and University of Foreign Language Studies, the University of Da Nang) which motivated other activities of training and scientific research.

The report showed not only the achievements of the university but also its weaknesses and solutions, new orientation for 2017-2018 school-year such as evaluating the implementation of education plan promulgated in 2012, which is behind the schedule, the difficulties in the admission of some majors such as Russian, French languages and language teacher education, unevenly development of testing competence in training units, the restricted amount of articles published in international prestigious magazines (ISI and SCOPUS list ones)…

In the report, president Minh also emphasized that vital tasks for the new school year would be consolidating the quality assurance elements of current training programs, developing new high quality and specific ones with according tuition fees, increasing solutions for attracting students to apply for university’s undergraduate and graduate programs; implementing the regulations of Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), University of Languages and International Studies and Vietnam National University, Hanoi on the working mechanism of lecturers, especially the quota of science and technology; completing tasks included in National Foreign Language Project 2020, other projects of MoET, formulating general plan and realizing stage 1 of university upgrading; renovating the career support for students; making plan and roadmap for self-management mechanism at ULIS – VNU.

The conference was also reported on budget execution, financial expenditures and welfare work. M.A Le Thi Khanh Trang, the Head of Finance & Planning Office, presented details of financial planning activities in 2016-2017 and the plan for 2017-2018. In addition, the contents of amendments and supplements in the Regulation on internal expenses have also been disseminated to the delegates. The new internal expense regulation was then adopted at the conference.

The report of the President of ULIS’s Trade Union on the results of the organization of the Conference for civil servants and employees at the subordinate units and the sum of the comments and suggestions to contribute to the activities of the university. The report clearly showed the interest of the ULIS’s Institutional Party Committee, Governing Board and Trade Union in the material and spiritual life of civil servants and employees.
The conference also heard the reports on activities of People’s Inspection Board in 2016-2017 and work program for 2017-2018 school year. In the report, the Head of the Board Pham Duc Trung said that the Board has successfully implemented the plan and program of last school year.
